So that movie Reefer Madness wasn't so far off after all! Yeah, yeah, yeah - more studies would have to be done, but it's still an interesting find

they use 40% to make it sound big...but it's 40% more of a really small number...

though that is a statistically significant difference...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. If they really could cure diabetes, I don't know if medical companies and careers that exist because of diabetes, would really allow that to happen....isn't that sad?? Courtney, you'd be able to find another job, I promise :)

Speaking of insulin - did either of you ever accidentally leave your insulin at room temp. overnight? I'm taking care of my mom's cats and one is diabetic and I saw this morning that my dummy-head left the insulin on the counter overnight. I think you both have pumps now (?) but when you used the bottles. Is it ok to use? I'm guessing it is as proteins can stand a lot and I've been reading about diabetics who accidentally left theirs in a hot car all day and had to use it and it was fine...

I haven't ever had a problem (n=1) - last week my insulin spent a total of 3 days in the trunk of the rental in the California valley heat (90+ every day), and it was fine

at home I keep the current bottle in a closet at room temp, the rest in the fridge

K, I was thinking it would be ok - I forgot that Barry is on insulin too

Thank you for letting me know the sample number is 1
  1.
Lindsay carries quite a bit around with her for hours at a time, so I think it's fine at room temp.
  2.
It is a little more risky though. My younger sister left a bottle of insulin under her bed for several days and then it did not work correctly when she used it.

If they do find a cure for diabetes, I think those people would be able to find other jobs in another medical field. This is what we call a "good problem" anyway. The biggest resistance will probably be from the pharm. industry.

i don't refrigerate my insulin anymore. room temp insulin works better in a pump. extreme temps are when you have to worry (hot/cold). when i worked at summer camp in altoona, we were outside all day, everyday. i rarely had problems with my insulin, though. in the dorms was when i had issues because i was on the 3rd floor with no a/c. it was a bajillion degrees in there.
  3.
It may depend on the insulin, too. Lindsay takes three different types of it, all of which get refridgerated at some point - but some of which is still cold when she uses it.

holly, I knew you'd appreciate that. I usually qualify my "I don't have a problem" type statements with "for sample size one", so put whatever confidence you want into it :)
